I'd like to try Apple's AirPods.
There are no Apple stores around, so it's hard to use them myself.

If you've already opened the wrapping paper, I don't think you can return it anywhere if you've even tried using it.
Especially if it's a company like Apple that uses a system called Ripper.
Apple products can be returned for any reason within two weeks.
So you can use it as you want and return it.
