Why can I only use 3.46G when I plug in 8G memory?

I bought an 8G memory and plugged it in because I heard it gets faster if I add RAM.

When I go into the computer and check, it says I'm using 3.46G.

Why can't you use all 8G?

You need to use Windows for 64-bit.
Or you can't use all 8G.

I think what I'm using now is a 32-bit window.
In that case, you can only use about 3g of memory.
You can install it as a 64-bit window, but only if your computer you are using now is 64-bit.
