Can you communicate well in English in Italy?

I thought there would be no problem because I heard that I am good at English in Europe, but fewer people can speak English than in Korea
In tourist attractions, there are English professionals who help, but in general, it doesn't work except for very simple English

Personally, I felt like I didn't know English more than Koreans
So I solved it by writing short words or using a translation app
I could hardly understand English in American English, and it was better to speak it like Konglish, similar to Korean pronunciation
